Jen Pickett, Ph.D., has a unique blend of expertise in academia, maritime work, and sustainability. With a Ph.D. in Work and Organizational Psychology from the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, and Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium, and a solid foundation in Outdoor Studies and Counseling Psychology from Alaska Pacific University, Jen specializes in understanding and enhancing psychological resilience in extreme environments.
In 2024, Jen founded Cutting Edge Arctic Solutions LLC, value-added manufacturing company based in Fox, Alaska. The company focuses on the custom fabrication of expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam products, including roof insulation, concrete forms, and architectural elements. Cutting Edge Arctic Solutions is known for its precision manufacturing using advanced CNC contour cutting technology and its commitment to delivering sustainable, Arctic-ready solutions. The company uniquely integrates custom manufacturing with cutting-edge research and development, addressing climate change, environmental impacts, and Arctic infrastructure needs.
Jen is also a sustainability specialist at PanAlaska LLC, a start-up revolutionizing the building industry with innovative thermal envelope structural building panels. Her role involves promoting sustainable practices that balance ecological health with economic and social considerations.
Jen’s background includes over 20 years in Alaska’s commercial fishing industry, where she has worked as both captain and crew, and significant experience living and working in the Arctic Circle. She has built an off-grid log cabin in remote Alaska and traveled extensively along the west coast of North America and to approximately 40 countries. Additionally, Jen is an Alaskan Fisherpoet and a freelance writer, embodying the spirit of an Alaska renaissance woman.
